Located in TruMark Financial Center, the Academic Support Center for Student Athletes supports athletes with academic issues, questions, and concerns as they balance their time and energy with the demands of being on Division I athletic teams. To accommodate the needs of student athletes, there is a professional writing tutor/academic coach and a graduate assistant who work specifically with 九色视频's student athlete population to support their academic success.
Academic Support for Student-Athletes (ASSA) uses Starfish Progress Report Campaigns to proactively solicit faculty feedback on student-athletes who are deemed at academic risk for a variety of reasons. In addition, ASSA utilizes the feedback received from the Progress Report Campaigns conducted by the Center for Academic Achievement. Once ASSA receives a Progress Report on a particular student, ASSA will contact the student-athlete as well as their coach to come in and discuss the concern. Typically, a meeting will take place within 3 days of receiving a report. Depending on the needs of the student, arrangements can be made for tutoring, assistance with time management, increased oversight on attendance, and more.
Additionally, ASSA reaches out to student athletes who receive a C- or below as a midterm grade. Coaches are again notified, and meetings take place to develop a plan to improve grades before the end of the semester. Faculty are encouraged to submit a Progress Report whenever they see a need for intervention with a student. Academic Support for Student-Athletes appreciates the feedback and utilizes it in an effort to assist students in achieving optimal academic success.
Study Hall is available to all student athletes and is required for all incoming freshmen and those with a GPA below 2.5. Additional required hours may be put in place at the discretion of a coach with the approval of an ASSA staff member.
ASSA provides writing support specifically for student-athletes. Appointments can be made for both in person and remote assistance.
Assistance with time management and balancing time demands is available by appointment with an ASSA team member. On campus workshops and one-on-one support can also be obtained by student-athletes.
Travel notes for student-athletes are created by ASSA and distributed to each student-athlete no less than one week prior to their first competition date. If an issue/concern develops in a class as a result of travel, the student is advised to contact ASSA for assistance. A member of the ASSA staff can be made available to proctor exams missed due to team travel as needed.
ASSA is available to assist student-athletes when creating class schedules that will allow for optimal performance in the classroom as well as in their sport. The student will be assigned a primary advisor based on their major and the student must meet with this advisor prior to registration to obtain their registration pin and course requirements for their major. The primary role of ASSA in the registration process is to assist student-athletes in creating the optimal schedule to reduce conflict between class, practice, and travel.
